Default Real Money Trading

I'm doing some research on the economics of online games and I wanted to get some opinions on one of the more controversial aspects, real money trading. I haven't heard much about RMT in Guild Wars, so I imagine it's pretty heavily discouraged. But enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Also, as part of my research, I'm also doing a survey (link at the bottom). It's only for people who have either bought or sold virtual items with real money. So if you have a few minutes, I'd appreciate you filling it out. If you don't know the answer to a question, just guess, I'd rather have a bad guess than no response.

You are correct in assuming that real world item trading is illegal in game. Your survey, however, might not get that many hits even though there are many ebayers. People don't like to admit that they ebayed because of the possible ban involved.

It's not a very reliable thing to use names on websites as a reason to ban an account.

I could easily just say I was you, and sign something admitting to a bannable offence.

I guess I should mention that the survey is completely anonymous. I have no way of keeping track of who responds and I don't think anyone else could. Of course, I don't expect anyone to come into this thread and readily admit to trading (or to filling out the survey now that I think of it). I've found that a lot of gaming communities are rather hostile to it.

I think RMT is illegal in almost all games, it's just some games don't really enforce the rules. I'm kind of looking more to understand if people think that's a good thing or if they have other ideas on how RMT should be handled.

Well since I take the time to inform all my guildies about this I figured I should go ahead and put it up here since people seem to be questioning it as well. Trading in game anything for Real money is prohibited by ANet as is the sale of accounts or cd keys for game items or gold. For actual proof of this please refer to the link below:

http://guildwars.com/support/legal/rulesofconduct.php

It clearly states under rules 10,11, and 12 that such actions are prohibited. Last summer there was a major house cleaning in which hundred of accounts were banned for selling/buying gold. I hope this enlightens a few people who have been told that ANet won't do anything to them for buying or selling their gold online.

What gave you the idea they ban people who buy gold online? There was guy who got caught buying more them 3mill in gold..he got a slapped wrist and a temp ban.

Anet are only after the big online merchants not your average joe who buys 100k to get a set of 15k.
